Hybrid Solar Power for islanders

An excellent example of solar power being put into good use is the hybrid solar power generation system in the Bangi Island, the largest island in Malaysia, off northern coast of Sabah.
The Bangi Island does not have large river or other big mass of water, otherwise hydro power would be ideal for the inhabitants on the island. To be supplied from the main land of Sabah via under water power cables is not feasible because the costs will be enormous. Then the options left for providing electricity to this isolated island are wind power and solar power. The government opted for solar power in the end.
And this proved to be a wise move; this is confirmed by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi during his visit to this island on Wednesday, 11th March, 2009. He said the hybrid solar system which he declared open 2 years ago is the best choice, the most cost effective method for providing 24-hour electricity to the islanders. The hybrid solar system proved to be ideal for providing elctrical power to a large community such as this one.

Go for safe, clean, environment-friendly power

Sabah is popular for its abundance of sunshine, mountain, rain forests and sandy beaches. This fact is used by the tourism sector to their maximum advantage in the past. But little do people know that we can also use the abundance of sun light available to better our life. The energy hidden in the sun light, which is called solar power, can be converted to power our factories, vehicles, homes etc; in place of the traditional fuel-generated power.
The solar power industry in Sabah has not really taken off the ground yet due to lack of publicity. The activities in this sector is limited to occasional home users and government sponsored projects.
I will be following the development of this industry closely, do check in regular here for the latest news.
